The Scientific-Research Institute of Economic Studies is one of the key scientific centers conducting research on the country’s economic development, economic policy analysis, and the preparation of evidence-based recommendations.
The Scientific-Research Institute of Economic Studies under the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) was established pursuant to Resolution No. 137 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 14 September 2009. The principal rationale for establishing the Institute was to consolidate the country’s leading economists within a single research platform
To strengthen the scientific personnel capacity of the Azerbaijan State University of Economics and to examine the current issues of our national economy, including matters related to sustainable, resilient, and balanced development, as well as macroeconomic regulation and the acceleration of social and regional development.
The objectives of the Scientific-Research Institute of Economic Studies include conducting scientific research in the field of economics, preparing analytical reports for the public and private sectors, and ensuring the integration of scientific knowledge at both academic and practical levels.
The principal areas of activity of the Institute comprise the conduct of strategic research on the development of the national economy, the implementation of macroeconomic and microeconomic studies, comprehensive sector-specific economic analyses, the preparation and execution of research projects and grant initiatives, the training and capacity-building of early-career researchers, as well as other functions aligned with its research mandate.
Since 2011, a Dissertation Council with the registration number FD 1.11, authorized by the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has been operating within the UNEC Scientific-Research Institute of Economic Studies for the organization and defense of PhD dissertations in the field of economics.
Since 2018, the Scientific News of Azerbaijan State University of Economics journal has been published with the direct involvement of the UNEC Scientific-Research Institute of Economic Studies. Beginning in 2024, the Institute has also launched the publication of a quarterly information-analytical bulletin.
