Dissertation councils are official bodies established for the purpose of defending, evaluating scientific research, and awarding relevant academic degrees.
The purpose of dissertation councils: Conducting the defense of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Science dissertations; assessing the scientific level of the defended dissertations, the scientific novelty and practical significance of the research; submitting an opinion to the Academic Council for the award of academic degrees, etc.
The Dissertation Council FD 1.11 has been operating under the Institute of Economic Research (IETI) of UNEC since 2011. Established for the purpose of organizing the defense of dissertations submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, the council has been functioning under the designation FD 1.11 since 1 November 2019.
The chair of Dissertation Council FD 1.11 is Professor Yadulla Hasanli, Doctor of Economics; the deputy chair is Nazim Hajiyev, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor; and the academic secretary is Rashad Huseynov, PhD in Economics. The council consists of 24 members. Within the Dissertation Council, dissertation defenses for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy are organized across four specialties.

The Dissertation Council registered under ED 2.10, operating within UNEC, was established on 7 April 2023 for the purpose of organizing the defense of dissertations for the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Science in the field of economics in the following specializations: 5301.01 – Internal Fiscal Policy and Public Finance, 5307.01 – Economic Theory, 5308.01 – General Economics, and 5312.01 – Sectoral Economics.

BFD 4.21 One-time Dissertation Council was established by order No. 3-50/3-1-1-248/2023 of the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 17, 2023, and its term of office was set until 01.11.2025.
The chairman of the BFD 4.21 One-time Dissertation Council is Dr. I.E., Prof. Gulenbar Azizova, the deputy chairman is Dr. I.U.F., Assoc. Prof. Azer Mehtiyev, the scientific secretary is Dr. I.F., Assoc. Prof. Sahib Mammadov.
